Grasslands
Temperate Grasslands or prairies have distinct seasons and moderate seasonal temperatures. The summers are hot and winters are cold and in these areas have continuous winds. The precipitation in the prairies is ten to thirty-nine inches a year, mostly in spring and early summer. The rainfall limits the growing seasons. However there are periodic droughts. Soil type has ten times more decayed matter than a deciduous forest. The soil is very rich in nutrients and has deep topsoil.
