Tundras
Tundra comes from the word tunturia which means treeless plain. They are commonly most known for its frost molded landscape, extremly low climate, little percipitation, simple vegitation structure, and short growing seasons. Growing seasons are usually sixty days or less. During summer months less than ten inches of precipitation. Two major nutrients are nitrogen and phosphorus created by fixation and percipitation. Dead organic material functions as the nutrients. Because of the low temperatures tree growth is hindered. The animals in tundras have adapted to the cold climate. Most animals hibernate during winters because there is not much food for them or go south until the harsh winters are over. Because of the hibernation and immigration the population varies.
