Northern Coniferous Forest-
Northern coniferous forest or Taiga (TIE-guh) is regions that have long cold winters and short summers. The temperature is above freezing for only two to four months in a year. The precipitation in taigas is only about fourteen to thirty-nine inches per year, and this usually only falls mostly during summer months. The soil type is thin, acidic soils with little decayed matter. The soil lacks nutrients and there is no permafrost (soil at or below feezing point of water for two years or more). Northern coniferous forest are mostly made up of cone-bearing or coniferous trees, these are needle-like trees and stay green all year long.
